Second Think Tank Day: Date, Venue & Topic

December 17, 2010

We now have a provisional date and venue booked in for the second ASHPIT think tank day, which will be held on Friday 15th April 2011 at the University of Oxford. If you would like to attend this event, please send an email registering your interest to We hope that holding the think tanks days at different locations will allow representatives from as many UK institutions as possible to attend at least one of them.

The theme of the second event will be Entrepreneurship, and once again we hope to include case studies of current practice in this area in the programme for the second day. If you or a colleagues would like to give a 15-minute presentation about a project relating to entrepreneurship, please email a brief overview of the project you’d like to discuss to, or just leave a comment at the bottom of this post.

My role is Research Innovation Officer at York and I develop training in Enterprise, KT and related practice.

I have a few thoughts on practice I could share. Firstly, there is a consortium set up for the Northern Research intensive Universities entitled the NESC which coordinates the use of the EPSRC entrepreneurship funds to run enterprise schools in the relevant regional areas. There are plans to continue to run these again this year – some schools have a commercial focus, and some are broader focusing on the softer skills of entrepreneurship and social enterprise. These have mainly been aimed at the Sciences, however in recent years have been opened out to AHSS.

Further more, I am involved at York with organising sessions to increase awareness and activity around the social enterprise agenda which resonates with the AHSS. I will talk to colleagues about whether we have enough information to share on this.

In theory, I am happy to contribute something – I may need a few more months in the role to confirm exactly what that will cover though!
